\t\t\t\tCynthia came to me asking for ways to help bring love into her life. We had a pretty revealing conversation, in which she admitted she had cast a spell on a coworker who she was in love with but who was married. He had flirted with her and encouraged her but seemed to have no intention of leaving his wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m ashamed of it now,\u201d she said. \u201cI wish I could take it back. I haven\u2019t had a date since I did that\u2014and this was over three years ago! And he and I used to at least be good friends, and since I did the spell, it\u2019s like he just became so frustrated with me all the time, and now we can barely work together.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is a classic situation. Cynthia found a recipe for a love spell in a book. She carefully set up the ritual and visualized her co-worker. Unfortunately, when she was thinking of him, she was also powerfully feeling the frustration<\/em> of the unrequited love. So this energy became part of the energetic statement of the spell, and because she bound her energy to his, she now is having trouble attracting another person. For his part, when I looked at the agreement, it was clear he enjoyed having a lovely young lady be infatuated with him and was fine with the attention. On that level, he did accept the energy\u2014although unconsciously\u2014of the spell by encouraging her attention. You can see how this spell backfired!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had more than one client ruefully admit to this kind of situation to me, and I\u2019ll confess there was a time when I was young and practicing some Wiccan traditions, and I contemplated the Love Spell chapter of my spell book. Spells are very powerful invocations and have karmic repercussions. I never would cast a spell today, at least not on anyone, and I advise you to do the same.<\/p>\n

What Is A Spell?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Popular imagery illustrates spells as being cast by either ugly hags or diabolical, busty ladies shrouded in black and usually with a wand, crystal ball, or ornate ancient manuscript close by. Spells are the provenance of witches, in both literature and history, and usually involve another person that the spell is being cast upon. Love spells are, of course, the most popular. In truth, anyone can cast a spell without being a witch, and many witches don\u2019t use spells at all.<\/p>\n

A spell is simply an intention made stronger by ritual and belief. If you have a spell book\u2014either ancient or modern\u2014the spells will usually require objects from the natural world, different stones or plants perhaps, and a written component that details the action of the spell. Spells are most powerful when performed during certain phases of the moon or on specific holidays such as Solstices or Equinoxes. Any New Age bookshop or website will have spell books where you can see an example of how to create and cast them.<\/p>\n

The karmic implication of a spell is this: if you are trying to interfere with the free will of another by making them fall in love with you, and they on some level accept the spell (either through fear or actual compliance), then you now have a negative attachment<\/a> to that soul lifetime after lifetime\u2014and that will impact both of you in ways you can\u2019t even know.<\/p>\n

Do Love Spells Work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes and no. A spell that you cast on another requires that they have buy-in and creates long-lasting complications and negative results you can\u2019t foresee. A spell that you cast for yourself for love is much more powerful.<\/p>\n

I told Cynthia that she was empowered to take back the original spell. We created a ritual together where she could do this and release herself from this man. Then I recommended a crystal healing<\/a> for her, to attract love, and we created a spell for her to do on her birthday to bring more love into her life. She was so relieved, and after seeing how powerful spells could be, was convinced that these new versions would work.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m happy to report that in just three weeks after her rituals, Cynthia was dating two men, and had \u201cmiraculously\u201d patched up her friendship with the co-worker. She no longer flirted with him, and he was friendly without being inappropriate. This was the fastest turnaround I\u2019d ever seen, and I congratulated her on the power of her belief and intention.<\/p>\n
