\u201cUm\u2014hello. Hi. Hi there,\u201d a voice came so softly over the line I could barely hear it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi. How can I help you today?\u201d I knew already what was going on\u2014a first-time caller, and one who felt unsure or possibly afraid.<\/p>\n

The caller continued. Angie was her name, and it was indeed her first time talking to a psychic. We took some time getting her comfortable, although she didn\u2019t stay too long the first time. But she called back a couple days later, and we were able to talk further and address her fears.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s common for people to be unsure about contacting a psychic. There is so much misinformation about what psychics do and how we act\u2014much of which is fueled by TV or movies and isn\u2019t very true or flattering. Fear #1: Are Psychics Evil\/Bad\/Going to Hurt Me?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I blame horror movies and the terrible real deeds of the Inquisition on this one. In times not far distant, any person\u2014but especially women\u2014were burned, tortured, or otherwise killed if they were thought to be witches, heretics, or otherwise possess supernatural powers. Obviously, this is a violation of human rights, but it\u2019s left a flavor of distrust and suspicion in our cultural subconscious about people with supernatural powers. This is exploited by horror movies that depict scary possessed children or creepy ladies exhorting us to \u201cgo to the light.\u201d No wonder people are afraid of what psychics do!<\/p>\n

The truth is, psychics\u2014intuitives, guides, astrologers, palmists etc.\u2014are just regular people who have developed certain skills and abilities<\/a>, just like a musician, athlete, or artist develops their abilities. We are everyday people who just want to help people using our particular gifts.<\/p>\n

Now, just like there are flamboyant musicians and low-key musicians and everything in between, different psychics take different approaches. Some of us ply our trade for spiritual development and others for entertainment. One isn\u2019t better than another\u2014but it\u2019s important that you choose the right type for you<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A psychic is a regular person, and so their degree of \u201cbadness\u201d or \u201cgoodness\u201d is the same as anyone else. This is a debatable and subjective judgment, and one person\u2019s good is another person\u2019s bad. You need to use your discernment when choosing a psychic, just like choosing a doctor. Pick someone you like who has the experience and credentials that make you comfortable.<\/p>\n

A psychic can\u2019t do you any kind of spiritual or supernatural harm. We can\u2019t put a spell on you, hypnotize you, or otherwise take away your power unless you agree to that with full consciousness\u2014but it\u2019s extremely unlikely we\u2019d want to do that in the first place.<\/p>\n

Fear #2: Am I Going Against My Religion?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This is a question that requires it\u2019s own post, but the short answer is: only you can answer that. If you belong to the sort of religious organization that clearly and explicitly bans working with intuitives, then there\u2019s your answer. My own opinion is that working with a psychic has nothing to do with religion. I have my own spiritual beliefs, as most psychics do, but we aren\u2019t in the business of trying to woo you away from your present path.<\/p>\n

Well, if you are asking a psychic to reveal an aspect of your future (which is actually not the best use of our skills<\/a>), there is a possibility you may hear something you don\u2019t like. You have free will, and a psychic can only look at probabilities based on your current choices and trajectory.
