I have always been drawn to the energy of The Fool. Bursting with anticipation, the joy of living, fearlessness, and faith, the card symbolizes freedom and new horizons to me. The Fool pictured above is from the Phantasmagoric Theater Tarot by Graham Cameron. <\/p>\n

The Fool is associated with the element of Air, it’s number is Zero, and it is very closely aligned with Judgement, which represents the knowledge and wisdom that will come from experience.\u00a0 Often this character is androgynous in nature and it is difficult to tell gender at a glance. There is no house of the Zodiac connected to this card, but its ruling planet is Uranus.\u00a0 The Fool is the wild card, The Joker, The Jester, and is the only member of the Major Arcana to appear in the standard deck of playing cards. <\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>This particular Fool is about to enter the ballet of life and dance into the future head-on. The tall cap covered with question marks symbolizes an innocent, childlike curiosity about the world below. There is much to learn and The\u00a0 Fool’s eyes are wide open. This is a deliberate leap of faith, and the bag on The Fool’s stick is adorned with an image of The Star – a symbol of hope for the future. A little dog sits just below and waits eagerly for The Fool to catch up. This is very different from the dog we usually see trying to hold his master back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you look at the night sky above and behind The Fool, you will see a myriad of objects arranged in the shape of a Zero. These represent the pure potential of ideas, dreams, and experiences awaiting our hero on the world stage. In her book, ‘The Secret Tarot,\u201d Jane Lyles says, “His number is a Zero, which is not really a number at all. Zero signifies the circular path of the tarot’s own journey of learning and experience, and that of every life that is lived to the full.”<\/p>\n

Each of us is The Fool, and the remaining 77 cards of the tarot deck combine in ever-shifting patterns to portray our journey through life.
