It’s that time of year again. The air is crisp and buzzing with anticipation as many flock to the television set to tune in from Thursday to Sunday \u2013 and lets not forget Monday night \u2013 for football. There’s college football, professional football and even high school football on Friday nights. Everything is football right now, as your significant other lives, eats and breathes football. And, try as you may, you aren’t going to be noticed. Even if you stand naked in front of the television, you’ll get bypassed and asked to move because Brett Favre is now a Viking.<\/p>\n

To the sports fanatic in your life, this is the “Hap-hap-happiest time of the year.” There’s nothing like spending a gorgeous Sunday with nature flaunting her beautiful fall colors in front of a television watching two teams actively try to outdo each other on the football field.<\/p>\n

So how do you deal with the sports fanatic in your life? Granted, the options are a bit limited, but here goes:<\/p>\n

  1. Learn to like the game\n

    Find something about the game you like. For example, you might enjoy the fashion sense seen on the field. The colors of the uniforms are flashy and the hairstyles of the players are equally entertaining \u2013 some players sport dreadlocks that flop out the back of their helmets.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. If you choose to sit next to him and watch, do not ask a ton of questions\n

    Actually, don’t ask any questions. This is called “Football Interruptus” and will only bring agitation to the person engrossed in watching a pile of men jump on each other on the field. It is better for you to Google the rules of the game and learn them for yourself.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. Put out some snacks if your guy has friends coming over to watch an “important game” (At this point, they are all important)\n

    However, don’t serve anything too good or your home will be appointed the place for weekly football viewing. Chips and dip are fine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. Act enthused\n

    Participate in the enthusiasm that your football fanatic shows over a game. Yes \u2013 you may have to fake it, but don’t overdo it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. Get a calendar\n

    Football season officially ends with the Super Bowl. Prepare yourself to be engulfed from November through January with the deluge of bowl games.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    And, finally \u2013 one last tip:<\/p>\n

    1. Have access to another television set\n

      There is usually a great Lifetime movie on during most football games. If you have the opportunity to tune into one, far away from the football game, then do so!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Football season comes every year, so grin and bear it. You may even get into it and find yourself watching SportsCenter<\/a> or the team of ex-jocks and analysts on Fox to keep track of what’s going on in the world of football. And if you really get into it, you may join a fantasy football league. It never hurts to share a passion with your significant other.<\/p>\n
