Feeling Stuck? Try These 5 Journal Questions Before You Decide

Making a big decision would be a lot easier if one choice always felt obviously right. Usually, it doesn’t. You can want two different things at the same time, worry about making the wrong call, and still have absolutely no idea which feeling you’re supposed to trust. And staying stuck in that loop can drain your energy fast.

That’s where writing can be useful. Not because your journal is going to hand you an answer magically, but because putting your thoughts somewhere outside your own head can make it easier to see what keeps coming up. These five journal prompts are meant to help you do exactly that.

5 Questions to Ask When You Feel Stuck

You may finish journaling and still have a few questions. In that case, a life path reading can help you keep exploring it.

1. What Would I Choose Without Outside Pressure?

Take other people's reactions out of the equation for a minute. Whose approval, expectations, or feelings are influencing this decision? Then ask yourself what you would want if you only had to answer to yourself.

2. What Am I Actually Afraid Will Happen?

Get specific about the worst-case scenario running in the background. Are you afraid of failing? Regretting it? Looking foolish? Losing stability? Hurting someone? Naming the fear can help you figure out whether it's useful information or just anxiety keeping you in place. If you can't tell the difference on your own, that's usually where a reading actually helps most.

3. Which Choice Fits the Life I Want?

Instead of trying to predict which option will turn out "right," zoom out. Think about the person you want to be, the way you want your days to feel, and what you want more of in your life. Which choice moves you closer to that?

4. What Advice Would I Give Someone Else?

Imagine a close friend came to you with the same dilemma. What would you notice immediately? What would you tell them they deserve? What would seem obvious from the outside that feels complicated from inside the decision?

5. What Happens If I Don’t Choose?

If you keep putting the decision off, imagine where that leaves you. Write out what your life could look like in a month, six months, and a year if everything stays exactly as it is. Then be honest about whether that feels like the safer option or simply the one you already know. And if “nothing changes” suddenly feels harder to imagine than change itself, you may already be on the edge of a new chapter.

Still Stuck? Get Another Perspective

You may not finish a journaling session with absolute certainty. That isn't always the goal. Sometimes clarity looks less like knowing exactly what will happen and more like understanding what you want, what you're afraid of, and which risk you're actually willing to take. And if you still want another perspective once it's all on the page, five minutes with a Keen advisor can help you see it more clearly.
