Do you think you have psychic abilities? You’re not alone. Whether or not they choose to develop it, nearly every human being is born with a “sixth sense.” If you have a history of receiving telepathic messages from friends or loved ones, or perhaps have had premonitions in your dreams that subsequently come to pass, or maybe even found yourself capable of healing an illness or injury by channeling positive energy, you might be a psychic. The truth is that while some people are naturally gifted psychics, almost all of us possess at least some aptitude for experiencing stimuli that is delivered via non-visceral sensory input—meaning those things outside the norm of what we all see, hear, touch, taste, or smell that can we associate with everyday life.
That said, psychic ability is like any other physical or mental talent. Think of it in terms of being an athlete: While major league ball players may be few and far between on the spectrum, most of us can play a game of softball with at least some modicum of skill. Or, if sports aren’t your thing, think of it in terms of music. Having a four-octave vocal range is highly unusual, but most of us can sing along when our favorite song comes on the radio.
However, like any other native talent you possess, no matter the degree, to develop that skill set requires patience, practice, and focus. Unfortunately, such psychic gifts are often dismissed or even ridiculed by mainstream forces that do not believe in the existence of the paranormal or supernatural. As a result, rather than embrace and nurture our psychic talents, many who do possess such gifts learn to stifle them, or worse, pretend they simply do not exist, which is a shame. Curbing your abilities to experience psychic information is akin to viewing the world with only a very limited spectrum of light or color.
Of course, there is also such a thing as too much information. Just as you would not counsel someone to stare directly into the sun, suggesting that you open yourself to psychic input without learning what is healthy and what is potentially harmful would not be in anyone’s best interest. If you do wish to develop your psychic abilities, you should learn to take precautions, just as you must buckle up your seat belt before experiencing the joys of the road. Here are a few steps to ensure your journey toward enlightenment is safe and rewarding.
Believe in Your Abilities
If you have either an inkling or actual experience that you already possess psychic abilities, the first step in taking your talents to the next level is to acknowledge your gift. By accepting that this is something in which you believe, you give yourself permission to move forward. Even if you have not had any psychic experiences as yet, opening your mind and heart to the possibility of receiving extra-sensory information is like opening a window to let in the fresh air.
Find Your Focus
Once you are committed to enhancing your psychic abilities, you’ll need to create an environment favorable for nurturing your skills. Be prepared to set aside both a time and location that are as free from distraction as possible. A space that’s quiet, not cluttered, and decorated in soothing colors is most conducive to the free flow of energy. Try to set aside a block of time each day to work on learning to focus and concentrate. Again, choosing a time during which you are least likely to be interrupted is best, and if you’re truly serious, turn off your cell phone and other electronic devices. Soothing music may also be helpful in stimulating your sixth sense.
Practice and Be Patient
Even if you have had success making psychic connections in the past, being able to tap into metaphysical energy is not a process that can be held to a strict timetable. Your progress can vary due to a number of influences. Keep at it and be consistent. Be welcoming to signs of positive progress, but don’t beat yourself up if connections don’t come as quickly as you’d like them to. Miracles can and do happen–just not always overnight.
Surround Yourself With Positive Energy
Last and most importantly, remember that there are good and bad forms of psychic energy flowing in the universe. When you open a window, it lets in the sunlight, but it can also allow destructive intruders into your inner sanctum. When you open yourself to psychic phenomena, you are more likely to be receptive of good energy, but you are also more vulnerable to negative influences. A good way to safeguard yourself is to picture your mind like an open window in front of which you have erected a “screen” of positive energy.
Trust Your Gut
As you become more adept at making a psychic connection, you will likely begin to have a heightened sense of awareness as to the nature of the cosmic forces that are reaching out to you. If at any time you feel that these forces have dark intentions, you must do your utmost to keep them from attaching themselves to you. Again, picture your mind and your spirit as a window, and if you feel the safeguards you have put into place are not strong enough to stave off negativity, picture yourself closing the window. Next, imagine that you are surrounded by white, healing light, and visualize that light flowing through you into Mother Earth, pulling the negativity along with it.
Find a Mentor
If you do feel that your defenses have been compromised, seek guidance from a trustworthy spiritual advisor before proceeding with your journey of psychic discovery. They can help ensure you stay on a healthy path, and help rid you of negative influences that you may not yet be fully equipped to cope with.
