Many practitioners of candle magic equate specific colors, and often, a specific direction with each of the four seasons. I use this method most of the time, however, I’m pretty flexible and change things according to what feels right at the time. Understanding the associations of the different seasons can help you perfect your practice of candle magic.
Here is the list of seasonal correspondences I put together to help you with your next session of candle magic!
The direction of Spring is West, because West is associated with water – specifically the oceans which are the cradle of life on our earth. It’s also associated with plants, healing, birth, purification, fertility, the subconscious mind, happiness, dreams, visions, love, friendship. Spring is the season of rebirth so this a great time to manifest the return of something or someone you have left behind. The colors of spring, therefore, are blue, green, white and coral.
The direction of Summer is South, because South is the direction of fire. Summer is associated with the heat of passions, love, sexuality, energy, illuminating ideas, visions, knowledge, healing, purification through trials and tribulations. Summer is a good time to manifest anything you feel passionately about. When you think of Summer candles, think of fire. The candle colors of Summer, therefore, are red, orange, yellow, and white.
The direction of Fall is East, because East is the direction of air, smoke, and change. Fall is associated with the harvest, with the gathering of herbs and flowers, with knowledge, intuition, movement, freedom, wanderlust, travel, and the stripping away of camouflage to reveal the truth underneath. Fall is the season of harvest, so this is the perfect time to manifest things you have been working towards. The candle colors of Fall, therefore, are gold, brown, red, and white.
The direction of Winter is North, because North is the direction of earth. Winter is associated with quiet, crispness of thought, celebration, stability, fertility, success, wealth, home and hearth, the resilience of nature, strength, and the surrender of self-will. Winter is the perfect season to reflect upon the state of your life and to manifest abundance and resilience. The colors of Winter, therefore, are dark green, magenta, silver, the deepest blue, and white.
The Fifth Direction
If you wish to, you can add a fifth direction.
Center is the direction of You. It represents self-awareness, self-nurture, finding your true path in life, and physical, spiritual, and emotional growth. Because this direction isn’t associated with any particular season, it is always the perfect time to manifest anything to do with your personal development. The colors of Center are white and whatever your favorite color is.
Now that you know more about what each season is associated with, you can focus the intentions of your candle magic to manifest the results you seek!
